Editing Blocks/Adding Logo

PostAuthor: OmenRiver » Sun Jan 01, 2012 9:01 pm

I need to know how to edit the blocks. I am very new here and new to PHP.

I just created a logo - I want to add it to the Banner page.
I think I need to open a database and edit it. Should I be using something like ConTEXT
or can I make the change via the PORTAL tab. [I am trying to edit the links on the Menu Links Page.]

The current graphics is - PHPBB Styles & Graphics. I want to switch it out.
[I want to change it and also where it says "A short text to describe your forum"]
I am hosted with BlueHost -
I should download the files. Edit them. Then upload them back up?
Is that correct?

first the logo may be in styles/your_style/theme/images/logos/ or styles/your_style/imageset/
to change the site description go to admin control panel on the left find "Board configuration" click Board Settings

Remember you can actually add several logos (to same folder) and they will be displayed randomly...
This is useful if you are like me and can't make up your mind as to which is best

The clock is not showing on my site - I am using the RedSteel style.
IT is showing the block but not the clock.
[Tried using IE8, chrome and Firefox]

Last Issues to work out:
1. The clock is not showing on my site - I am using the RedSteel style.
IT is showing the block but not the clock.

2. Customize the bottom:
Powered by phpBB® Forum Software © phpBB Group
Design redsteel by phpBB and BBcodes.com © MX
Ported to Kiss II Portal by Prosk8er © 2011
Portal: Kiss Portal Engine © 2011 Michael O'Toole

Make that info unseen by my users [if that is allower]

3. Customizing my LINKS Menu - Which I can edit those there but when I try my own it says I am missing some needed items. I will trial and error those.

Then I think I will be ready for people to look at it and join

If you don't show phpBB's copyright you won't get any support if anything goes wrong...
I can speak for Prosk8er and BBcodes.com but after all their hard work, I would be very disappointed if the copyright was removed or hidden...
As to the Kiss Portal copyright... several years of work, so I would also be disappointed and would be reluctant to help should anything go amiss... If you have a real good reason to not display my copyright I might reconsider giving support... :bbc:

Re the clock problem... make sure a file named: clock.swf is in styles/RedSteel/theme/images/portal folder...

I have no issue leaving it there.
I did not know if it was a good thing

I hope I did not offend.

You did not offend, at least you had the good sense to ask, many don't...

PS, I edit my post above with a solution to the clock problem...
Often copyright text can be over the top, too big or cluttered, in these cases you can very often modify it without removing... I can help with that if it is an issue...

Thank You I appreciate it. For now it seems fine.
One question though: How do I make the base page the Portal and not the forum
When they do www.TheBlackExperience.net
I want them to goto the Portal and not the Forum.

Thanks again

There are a few ways to do this but with my memory I can't recall the actual process at the moment...
The main involves editing the .htaccess file to set the portal.php first...
I will see if I can find the appropriate post...

Check this post on the main site: http://www.stargate-portal.com/forum/vi ... %2A#p12792
The code that does the trick is:
Code: Select all
DirectoryIndex portal.php index.php index.html index.htm
