phpBB Garage Mod

PostAuthor: Mike » Thu Aug 29, 2013 10:10 am

The original Mod by poyntesm is no longer actively developed/supported... The mod was forked and rename to BB Garage by Blue Blood and this is the mod I have installed to evaluate adding additional portal blocks...

Originally I made a couple of blocks and although they worked perfectly, I then decided to see if it was practical to reuse the mods existing blocks provided for the garage.php page... These block are not intended for use other than on that page so a little work will be necessary before any data can be shared...

If anyone used this mod could they please let me know if all the information the mod supports/displays is entirely necessary, and if they like the layout currently provided... I ask this because I believe the mod could better display this information if fully integrated into the portal...

Concerns:
I do have one small concern... the cloned versions does not include the original authors copyright, yet the code changes in most of the files I have compared, are very minor indeed... certainly nothing to substantiate removal of original copyright...

You can't simply clone a repository and remove the original authors copyright, you should append your copyright and leave the original copyright intact for all the original files...

I have decided to clone the original mod and work on that code for the moment.... :Sec:

Although this is a specialised mod, there's some very useful php and javascript code in it... Could be a good place to learn intermediate and advanced coding techniques... It's quite big too, certainly much bigger than I originally thought...

yeah it's a sought after mod though for car enthusiasts i'm not sure why no one has picked it up and got it validated
I went through a few files already and fixed some stuff :)

One guy has forked it and done some useful work updating...

Unfortunately as he removed the original authors copyright from the code, I can't in all good conscience use his fork, even though I don't believe his actions were done with malicious intent... More likely, he assumed he could change the copyright completely... but of course you can't remove the original authors copyright... :nono:

Can't believe some coders still believe when they fork a repository they can remove existing copyright and just add their own... they cannot!

I understand I never remove the copyright to anything that I take over
for the styles I took over I may remove the footer copyright and leave his in the readme.txt but he said I can do that if I wish

So is this mod dead again? I really want to get garage installed back on my board as it broke when I moved from phpbb2 to 3. I am at 3.12 the latest version right now. Are the files to use on the git? I am no programmer so not much help there but this mod was a really nice add for a car forum and the members loved it. To bring it back would be a big plus for me. Thanks for your time.
